Scratching in the attic at night, droppings in the garage, or chewed wires under the hood of the car are the usual signs. Roof rats are the most common rodent we deal with in the Austin area, along with house mice.

How we handle it
The first visit is mostly inspection. The tech looks for where they’re getting in, which is often gaps at the roofline, AC lines, garage door corners and vents. From there we set up a plan that fits the house, which can include bait stations outside, traps inside, and sealing the entry points we find. Bait stations get checked and serviced on later visits.
If something bigger than a rat is involved, like a raccoon or squirrel in the attic, see our wildlife removal service.
What helps
Keep trash cans closed, bring pet food in at night, trim tree limbs back from the roof, and pick up fallen fruit and pecans. Rats will travel a long way for an easy meal.
Related: commercial pest control, roach control.
